Sounds like you're having a rubbish time of it. Here's my two pence.
1) Uni will get easier, and it will get better the further through it you get. You have done the bulk of first year now, just a few months of spring and you'll be into exams. My tip here is to start planning your summer, it will be here in 5-6 months, so have something epic to look foward to.
2) Good on you for going to speak to someone. Some people are more helpful than others, but remember they are all there to help. If this one wasnt so good, would it be worth finding someone else? Its ok to feel down you know, lots of people feel that way on and off or all the time. Family and friends are often a good place to go to also, they would hope that you would go to them if you needed to, so even if you dont discuss personal things with them, use their support and company when you need it.
3) Its well known that all dogs are absolute lads. Further to this, do what any lad would have wanted, take some mates to the pub, have a drink in his honour and remember the fun times. Dont feel embarrased, you;ve grown up with this dog, you have every right to be cut up about it. It wasnt your fault, there is nothing you should have done differently.
4) I know the feeling of just wanting to run away and escape all to well. Take half an hour, put some music on and shut your eyes for a bit. Or escape into a good book, or a game. Start writing things down and drawing, it helps to get things out. I find going on walks to be helpful too, or long drives.
Pm me if you ever need someone to talk to, take care x
