This morning I installed Fallout 3 onto my laptop. It appeared to install fine, adn when I began to run the program had no issues up until I actually tried to start a 'new' game, when the window would close, and my conputer would say that the program had stopped working.

i thought this might just be something to do with the game, so I uninstalled it and instaled Assasin's Creed instead. However this is haveing the same effect, it appears to have installed fine but when I try and run it, a window opens with the title screen but then closes and my laptop tells me the game has 'stopped working'.

Anybody else had this issue/knwo any possible solutions?

    Cheers

What spec is the laptop? Those are pretty demanding games, a lot of laptops wouldn't be able to run them.

Acer Aspire, 2.1 GHz processor, 500GB hard drive

For Assasins Creed after installation it came up with a window with a checklist of the requirements for game installation and it said they were all there.

    RAM? Graphics card? Video memory?

Wouldn't trust those checklists too much, I find they are often quite optimistic about what you can run.

Go to run>dxdiag to find out the spec of your computer.

That happened to me with Fallout 3 when I first installed it, I don't use a CD, I mount it. Tried it again and it worked although I opened it from a specific location in the My Computer bit.

Your graphics card isn't good enough to run them

Bingo, that is the problem. 64mb is pitiful and it's integerated graphics to boot. I'm sorry, but i'm afraid there's pretty much nothing you can do. Except maybe get a console?
