Has anyone had experience of something like this?
My fitness level is quite low and I'm quite overweight.
My actual bike is broken, gym is too far away/too expensive.
This is cheap(ish), takes up little room, can do it in my room.

    Advice?

Buy a skipping rope for a couple quid. Stationary bikes are boring.

All fitness equipment is worth the money it costs. Especially in the UK. Who seriously wants to go outside and freeze their bits off in the pouring rain or snow? I certainly don't. I would much rather stay under my bridge and keep warm.
