I had my PGCE interview for RE today and have been left feeling quite disheartened and disappointed with the whole thing.

Firstly, there was a very overbearing and pushy girl in my group who continually made comments and asked questions in order to draw attention to herself and get noticed. I don't have a problen with this per se, but all her questioning and commenting meant that the interviewers ran out of time to tell us all about the course. I feel that they should have dealt with this better.

There were 2 interviewers and one had to leave halfway through so didn't get to observe all the candidates' (including mine) presentations.

Due to the lack of time as a result of the domineering girl's questioning, my presentation was delayed and pushed to the end of the interview, which I felt was unfair and regarded as an afterthought. Pretty disappointing considering the amount of effort I put into it. We were instructed to give a presentation lasting 5-7 mins. All the other candidates presentations lasted longer than this. I had timed mine to last exactly 7 mins and when I was finished, the interviewer asked me if that was it. I feel that it was unfair that other candidates got to spend longer on theirs - I could have spent longer on mine and gone into greater detail, but didn;t because I was concerned with sticking to the time limit.

Finally, when I was called for the individual interview (1 1/2 hours into the interview), the interviewers didn't even know who I was. They called my name and looked vaguely around the room. The individual interview lasted less than 5 mins and I was asked only 3 questions. I've heard of individual interviews lasting longer than 30 mins and don't feel that my interviewers could have got a sense of my personality or desire to teach in such a short amount of time.

What are other people's experiences of interviews? Is what I experienced unusual or am I making a fuss about nothing? I just feel like the whole thing was completely disorganised and chatoic.

Welcome to the world of teacher training.

The pushy girl would have annoyed everyone. You probably won't see her again.

The fact you sticked to the time limit set will be viewed as a positive thing. Don't worry about the fact they didn't know who you were (although that is a bit rude). It is a statutory requirement that an interview is conducted. So long as you didn't do anything crazy, you could easily still get a place based on the strength of your written application regardless of whether you made much of an impression face-to-face.

Out of interest what were you being interviewed for? and where?

My interview for History at Nottingham was very different to that but there were only three of us due to the bad weather in the East Midlands!

I was being interviewed at Cambridge, which makes it all the more surprising - you would think that one of the best universities in the UK would have a more organised way of doing things.
