I've been wanting to go blonde for a while now, but unfortunately, I cannot afford the hairdressers and am terrified of being shunned away due to the fact I haven't cut my hair in about a year and my ends are pretty dry. My hair is naturally dark brown, though after dying it red a few times it's got red tones in it and is slightly lighter, I don't want to go full on bleach blonde but more of a dirty, greasy kinda grungy blonde, something similar to either of these three shades:
What's the best way to do it? Is it necessary to bleach it? I was thinking dying it a light brown then doing that whole ombre hair thing with bleach through the end, but don't know if this would work?

I would suggest first using this product: http://www.boots.com/en/Colour-B4.-H...pert._1000978/
I dyed my blonde hair auburn - it looked awful. I used this and my hair went back to the exact color it was before. It was amazing, doesnt damage your hair or anything. Use it to remove the red build up in yours then use a blonde dye a shade lighter than you want (seeing as your darker). If your wanting the lighter ends though try loreal couleur experte. You put highlights in after you dye all of it.
I know I seem to be advertising quite a bit but ive dyed my hair so many times Ive prob used most products. I always end up going back to my original though
oh - dont use bleach. it removes all pigments from your hair so you just go white.
hope this helps

Hi There, Liv mentioned a product I created called Colour B4. I have also brought out another product called 'The Foil Effects Cap' which enables you to get salon style foils effects at home. If you wanted to go blonde you could also try this:-
