I did an experiment at school investigating how changing the concentration of sucrose solution affected osmosis in potatoes. We did it with a small cylinder and a large cylinder of potato.

    1) I noticed that in the higher concentrations the potato cylinders floated and in the lower concentrations the cylinders sunk. Why is this?

    2) The mass of the small cylinder changed a lot more than the large cylinder, do you know why this is?

    Thank you!

I am guessing that the water went out of the potato into the sucrose solution which made it float as it was lighter.
