I usualy go past tipsy but never get drunk so that I am falling down or being sick. I just drink enough to silly party tricks in pubs  or go into student halls wearing a scouse wig.

I do drink, but I can usually remember most things that happened and can still get home on the bus!

Just wondering what people do/think.. Do you:

a) Not drink at all
b) Drink a bit (tipsy)
c) Drink until you're really drunk

Also do you think that you can oly have a good time if you're drinking...?

If you need to drink to have a good time you have something seriously wrong with you...

I normally get a bit tipsy, but I can have just as much fun if I am sober (as long as there is no dancing)

However, I got ridiculously drunk on Sat and regret it. Seriously folks s'not fun, even though I wasn't sick or hungover.

Reply 26

you can have a good time sober, but you can have a better time drunk, however you don't need to be drunk to have fun but being drunk makes everything fun and being sober when everyone else is drunk is terrible.
Catch my drift.
I honestly couldn't say how much I have when I go out. I varies alot. If I have to get up for 9 the next day, but its someones birthday or something, i'll usually have 5 or 6 pints, so the hangover isn't deadly(in my eyes 6 pints is the perfect state of drunkeness). But more if i don't have to get up.

But then I goto the pub everyother night or whenever footy's on, an have 2 or 3 pints.

I guess this is what most students too tbh.

i think u dont have to drink to have a good time, i know some ppl that are hyperactive without drink anyway so they dont have to drink!!

personally i drink just so im happily tipsy, i think u tend to want to have some drink in u esp if ppl around u r all drunk when ure in a nightclub or sumfin! mayb its jus me but i am more confident after a few (in terms of gettin up and dancin ridiculously hyperactively ) and confidence isnt a bad thing! u just have to kno when to stop and not get ridiculously off your face and doing stupid things/not remembering how much of a tw*t u were the night before!!

here's something interesting....for women the amount of units you can have and not be pickling your liver is 3-4....in one glass of wine there are around 2.6 units...therefore you can only have 2 glasses and thats over the recommended 4 units! Something to think about...

Depends on the size of the glass - the 2.6 units would be one of the huge 250ml glasses you get in places like wetherspoons, which are actually about twice the size of normal dinner wine glasses. But yes, it's remarkably easy to break the "official" guidelines for binge drinking - I do it most times I go to formal, I'm sure.

I drink moderately - but that has been learnt through the after-effects of lots of binge drinking sessions. I go for quality rather than quantity - so it has to be nice beer or wine, no snakebite (bleurgh!).

my house mate got really drunk the other night (£50 in one night) and the next thing he remembers is waking up next to an ugly 27 year old (he's 21) who lives on a hill 20 miles outside sheffield with about 15 cats. She said something like 'that was great we should do it again' he's avoiding her now and every few days curls up in a ball on floor and shivers.

I think we can all learn somthing from that.

I drink moderately. I only go over tipsy now on a special (special being a birthday or perhaps just a really good night when everyone is out and up for it) I try to keep with beer/lager now as I prefer being tipsy on that, its more progressive, with spirits I find one second I'm fairly tipsy then *fruitcage* I'm a gabbling wreak.

Then the other factor is friends, its horrible being smashed surrounded by sober peeps, thats why I prefer beer as you all get drunk together.

however in the right setting beer gets the better of me. 1.50 a bottle of castlesh**e, goes down like water.

I tend to drink past tipsy, but not to the point of being totall changed. I like to feel like i'm drunk and lose inhibitions which tipsy doesn't really sum up.

Ok, well here's my input:

I'm not much of a big drinker. In fact, I'm probably one of the people in my group of friends who drinks the least. For example, I've just got back from my friend's house, there were about 6 of us sitting around and some of them had a couple of shots, but I declined; didn't feel the need. I most certainly do not need alcohol to have a good time. I'm naturally extroverted, and have a laugh generally, so I don't need to alcohol to make me confident.

However, that is not to say I do not drink. The last two weekends out of three I have been drinking, because one was a sort of mellowed out house-party and the other was drinking in Latvian bars (Riga!). So I do drink, because it does make things seem funnier and it is rather boring to be sober when others are pissed. Very boring in fact, and slightly annoying. I don't need alcohol to have fun; but drinking moderately does make things seem funnier. However, I hate it when people drink for the sake of getting drunk. Smashed/wasted etc. It is not cool to be pissed to the point of regurgitation. It is not cool to be so drunk that people become aggressive. I am a happy drunk - I basically ramble crap, which is what I do usually only to an exaggerated state. I also will not drink if I don't like the taste of that drink, why do people drink things that "taste like sh*t".

So, yes, I do drink when I'm out with friends, but not all the time. Yes, drinking does lower inhibition and incite fun, but yes, I can have huge fun without booze. No, I don't drink brands which I find repulsive. And no, I don't drink to the point of losing control, nausea etc. But yes, being sober when others are pissed is crap. But I only ever get tipsy not out-and-out pissed.

To get tipsy and stay that way so you have some good effects of being drunk without too many drawbacks like the hangover etc.

at 15 i think i'm quite well behaved compared to a lot of people i know my age. this month i have been pretty bad though. 3/4 weekends i drank, plus now it's half term i will be going to a gig and a couple of parties. but i've never had a hangover, and i've never been sick from drinking either. i don't usually forget parts of the night, but i went to a party on saturday and today my friend said something like "remember that picture i took of us" and i was like  you brought a camera???

i don't need to drink to have a good time around my friends, but if i'm meeting new people i like to be a bit tipsy so it gives me more confidence to start a conversation yanno.
