im finishing my a levels this year and want to go to a art college to study fashion.

however im not really sure what a fashion degree is all about.
I can't sow or use a sowing machine never knitted or any sort like that.

I want to go into the menswear and want to start my own brand and design my own clothes in the furture.i already made my logo for it during sixth forum and have already have some designs i have came up for jackets and shirts.

is there freedom in a fashion degree course? what i mean is can you chose what ever material you want to use like i want to create a leather jacket with some print designs on them and put my logo on it.Would i be aloud to do what i want ?or is it more like they chose a selection of fabris that you have to use and work upon?
I also have some designs for a tshirt but i dont want to make the tshirt i want a plain tshirt but i have some print designs that i made and would like to go on it.Can you do that in fashion degree?

so is fashion degree what i want to do?

    thanks.

I've just applied for fashion degrees, and when i looked at the course specifications they all had similar topics they would cover, but some universities specialise and emphasise more commericial design, and some emphasise and encourage experimentation. You have to do your research and learn to spell sew, it also sounds liek youre more interested in printing on fabrics (textiles) then the actual making, research and design of a garment.

Fashion courses are maily restricted. In UAL it is very restricted and specialized but in your third year (and 2nd it hink...) you can collaborate with people from the other pathways (e.g. if you do menswear you can collaborate with someone doing print textiles)
The fashion course at kingston and westminister are slightly more broad in the first year but they expect you to consider specializing in year 2.
Have you considered a foundation year? They are really helpful if you want to go into a specialized area and are not sure (and help you build a range of skills and a good portfolio)
