Ive heard that you can use a vpn at uni so you can download things without them having a go at you for it. How do you do this ? Do you need anything or can you just do it via the computer?

You might not be able to. It is possible to block access to outside VPNs and some universities do it, because it can be construed as a security risk.

Either way, you'll need to pay for access to a public VPN service (risky - they often keep logs) or you can buy some kind of virtual private server and set up your own private VPN. Again, this will cost some kind of money.

      bump
You don't need to bump after 8 minutes. If it's been a day or so, or your thread has dropped off the first page then you could bump.
Bear in mind people don't sit at their computer eagerly waiting to answer questions.

In addition to what has been said above, you can set up a vpn for free but it will be painfully slow.
It's generally better not to download at uni, especially p2p software like torrent clients or limewire alternatives.

Essentially this thread is a request for a "how to download music/movies at uni", which isn't allowed on TSR. Neither are VPNs at many universities and they may actively stop you from using them.
