So with our interviews fast approaching, I thought it'd be good for us to be able to compare experiences etc And it could be useful to get to know each other. So I'll start Although by this point you all probably won't read this until after interviews, but never mind, no harm in it anyway.
    So...me
    Age-19
    Live-Wrexham, North Wales
    GCSEs- 3A*s, 5As, 2Bs
AS Levels-5 As in Biology, Psychology, Sociology, Welsh and English
Predicted Grades-5 A*s in the above
I'm actually a 3rd year student, as last year when I sat my exams I was poorly So missed loads of them and had to re-do the year. So all my frields from college have gone off to uni and left me :P
Subject to specialise in-Psychology, I know a bit about Sociology too, but NOTHING about Politics! So fingers crossed they ask me no politics.
    Interview-7th December
Interviewers-Dr Wickham for the general, and Dr Wydra for the special (yes, a POLITICS tutor-uh oh!)

So now I want to know all about you guys! I'm nosy you see

I'm on a gap year, working in Oxford although I've always lived in Sussex. 1 A*, 7 As, 1 B and 1 C at GCSE, AABC at AS, A*A*A at A level.
I'm a politics person and know pretty much nothing about the other two!
Also have Dr Wydra for my tutorial interview and Rev. Moore for my admissions.

    Age: 19
Subjects: Double maths, psychology, economics, biology
    Predicted: 5 A*s
also have Dr Wickham for general and Dr Wydra for subject-based.

And I'm in Scunthorpe ( a very boring town) so I really really hope to move to somewhere better for uni ^^

Nice So what's your gap year involving? Paid work? And what A Levels did you study? Politics presumably?

    @Kurenai
Ooh double maths, brave person! So did you just come to the UK for A Levels? Presumably you lived in Vietnam before that. What's the equivalent to GCSEs over there? How did you do in your AS Levels? (If you don't mind my asking)
Do you want to mainly study Psychology then? I think economics will help you in the politics related parts of the course, and will probably be useful in the interview. What time on the 7th are you? Did you get the email asking you to come early 'cause they're going to give us some info to make up pary of the interview?
I know all about living in a boring place! I live in a tiny little village in the middle of nowhere, which looks pretty now in all the snow, but isn't a particularly exciting place! Do you apply as a foreign or UK student?

@Blackpot: Yeah I've just been in the UK for more than 1 year. I'm applying as a foreign student and dont have to submit GCSE or anything like that. They just need AS grades and predicted. I got A for all the subjects at AS but my practical thing in Biology was really nasty...
I wanted to do economics at the beginning but then found out it's not for me and I really enjoy Psychology

Interview- 3h45 and 4h15pm, yeah I got that email, too. Do you think it's for general or subject interview? I know the later would make more sense but it's strange if they give you something to read but not ask you about it straight away? I really hope it's not politics coz I'm really rubbish at this subject, especially politics in England

Oh, I think you're just after me! I'm 3-15 and 3-45, but I'll be there at quarter to 3 now for the interview. We might see each other Maybe they've organised us in terms of subject preference, so that the info they're going to give us makes sense...
Yeah that's what I thought! I mean, it has to be info for the subject one doesn't it, but it is weird to give it to us before the general. I'm wondering if they're going to cancel the generals, 'casue that's what happened to my boyfriend last year. Because it seemed that the decision to give us an item may have been last minute, since they only told us Friday. Hmmm...guess we'll find out!!

Hi Herbert Hu, did you have the extract by Nietzsche? I think we may have all had different extracts. I don't think I did very well on mine actually, how did you think you did? I don't think I saw you, but...

@Kurenai-I did see you I think! I nearly bumped into you coming out of Dr Wydra's office. If it was you, you seemed rather stressed and in a hurry! Did you have the same problem as me? I turned up expecting to be interviewed by Dr Wickham, and found that they'd made a mistake. How do you think your interview went?

Dr Wydra was lovely wasn't he!

What about you Sentiment? How did it go?

yeah I think you're right. I did see someone before me but I thought I was really late coz I could find the room. I was wearing a black jacket. They told me there was a mistake, too, kinda surprised but glad to have a psychology interview

Dr Wydra was really cool , though I dont think I did well in the interview with him. It was all about politics and abstract stuffs which I'm not keen on, especially in a second language. But he was really nice and encouraged me to add some Psychology into the text

Yes, I think we get the same topic, I got Nietzsche as well. I explained in terms of religion and talked a lot about Chinese politics and Chairman Mao all those stuff....I think Dr Wydra was happy with me for the part which I was concentrating on political ideology...but later he asked me that if you got into this College, do you want to become a political leader?..and I said no....I was really regret after I said this...

My interview was in the morning, one at 10.00 and the other one was 10.30. I thing they made a mistake too, the first one was not with Dr Wickham, but a woman instead.

@Sentiment~I don't think I did very well either, don't worry! It's a bit difficult for us psychology people isn't it...at least I'm going to stick with that excuse! :P
What psychology did you manage to bring into the extract then? I mentioned a little about nature/nurture, and man's innate wish to gain power, but I don't think I did very well

@Herbert~Oh well done! Don't worry about saying that last thing, especially if it was the truth! I'm sure he wouldn't expect you to pretend to want to be a political leader. I actually talked about China a bit too, but I mentioned Ai Wei Wei and his treatment by the government. I found it quite a daunting extract to be honest!
So are you applying as a foreign student, or are you taking A Levels here in the UK? Tell us a bit about yourself!

Well...I really think the last point does matter actually...

I am taking A-Level here in a sixth form College, double maths, economics and psychology.

By the way, who is your first examinar, is that a lady with black hair? I did not see Dr Wickham....

My biggest problem is my language, sometimes the things I spoke out were not what exactly I mean in my heart, but Dr Wydra was really nice, he noticed this point and encouraged me to explain more.

Did you feel stressful when you talk to him? I did not...very unusual for me...

So if you go to Cambridge, do you want to focus on psychology?
Yes, I spoke to the lady too, apparently Dr Wickham's name was a mistake. He's a music tutor. Well both Dr Wydra, and Dr Yankova-Dimova (the lady), English was their second language, so I'm sure they would have been able to empathise and understand if you were having difficulty expressing yourself. And it sounds like you did really well anyway, sounds like you came up with good ideas.
So how long have you lived in the UK?
Do you mind my asking what your AS Grades, and predicted A Level grades are?

I loved it! I had a woman with dark hair to start with who didn't introduce herself (unless I forgot) and then Dr Wydra who I loved. It went as well as it could have. We all had some banter together which was nice haha. Fingers crossed now but it looked like they had a massive file of folders for applicants I also had the Nietzche excerpt.

I have been living here for nearly two years.

I got AA in double maths, an A in AS psychology and a high B in economics( AA predicted, so toatlly should be AAAA in the end), 7.0 in IELTS. My results are not shining enough actually, you all did much better than me as I noticed that nearly all of you have A*s.

I don't think I performed extremely well in the interviews, just not nervous. I am also a psychology man and I am of course focused on psychology, all my personal statement is about psychology..... Politics is just my interest and as in China we all have to learn politics in middle school, that's why I am quiet femiliar with Chinese politics.

By the way, I have heard that they got 55 applicants this year, this is a lot compare to before....how many applicants were rejected pre-interview? I am the only student who applied this course in my College, how about in your schools or colleges? I wonder how Dr Yankova-Dimova and Dr Wydra can interview that much...they can't remember us then...

@Sentiment~I'm glad it went well, just got to wait for 5th January now! The lady was Dr Yankova-Dimova, if it was the same as me.

@Herbert~So your AS Grades are AAAB, and your predicted grades are AAAA, is that right? What's IELTS? My boyfriend's teaching English in China at the moment, in a middle school in Jiangxi. So he's learning Mandarin, do you speak Mandarin? Yes, I'm afraid it's true about the huge number of applicants, I asked Dr Wydra about it at interview.

No, my A-Level position was quiet complicated...I did a half-year preparation course first and finished whole A-Level maths within that 6 months and got an A. For further maths, I also finished within 6 months. So, my double maths results are not just AS, they are two A-Level results( both AS and A2).Only the economics and psychology results are predicted...

Yes, my first language is Mandarin and I am from Beijing.

Finger crossed until 5th Jan now....how many offers you think they will give out this year? If there are 55...i think at least there will 10...

Blackpot: IELTS is an English test for foreign students. You dont need it . So you asked him about the number of applicants and he confirmed it? :-ss

Herbert.Hu: so you are a boy? Which part of China do you live? I have a lot of friends from China and one of them also applied for PPS this year but in Homerton.

Everyone: what do you think about the college? Personally I was a bit disappointed. Of course I havent been all over the place but the interview rooms didnt look as nice as I imagined...
