Who else thinks the term 'dumped' sounds awful? Watch

    Why do people use the term 'dumped' when they finish with someone? To me, it's a horrible expression.

    I don't 'dump' someone, but rather I 'break up' with someone or 'end the relationship'.

    Anyone else agree?

    It sounds awful because of the connotations.

    I assume you meant to ask "who", however.

    I just didn't catch this thread 3 weeks ago for some reason :dontknow:

    But I can totally see where you're coming from with this. I do think "dump" does sound harsher than "break up" and "end relationship", and I agree that it's probably because of the connotations. Since it does essentially mean the same as disposing rubbish, dropping something, and poo, :teehee:.

    When you've just been dumped/broken up with, I think the term is the least of your worries.

    I agree with this!

    However, I think that 'dumped' is a very junior school word!
