    1. Best of/at what?

    2. Does there have to be a best?

    My personal favourite is MIT.

Agree with MIT. In fact, I agree with that table presented. Only thing I disagree with is Michigan's place. Probably should be at number 10 instead of Minnesota. If someone says economics and the US, first thing that comes to mind is MIT and UChicago.

'Please note that rankings can depend on the number of registered authors in the respective institutions.'

that is why I did not link to that ranking. But it is still a much better ranking than most league tables.

Compile a list with only American Universities and you should have a pretty good guide.

MIT is not in the top50. This is thread specifically for economics. No need to say more.

    My personal top 10 are:

    Harvard
    Princeton
    MIT
    Stanford
    Berkeley
    Yale
    Chicago
    Columbia
    Brown
    Northwestern

But most league tables don't put Brown in the top 10.

SPMS: try this, though it is of global coverage (you can just omit or skip none US schools) - http://ideas.repec.org/top/top.econdept.html

Surely you have no idea what you are talking about....

Chicago behind Dartmouth/Cornell for economics? Some kind of joke?
