    hi

any one re-sitting this silly exam

i am slightly confused on how to structure an answer for the great gatsby....

has any one got any ideas about what the question may be based on stuff that hasn't appeared in the past....

spose we can rule out the 'importance of the past' and 'memory' for owen...

    please reply.

with suggestions on how you're revising...i keep re-reading poems and novel...trying to memorise quotations.
i did lots of practise questions last year which were good but when i did my exam..i PANICKED.

    so yeah...share tips and pain

any one else re-sitting history conflict and change----edexcel AS level.(haven't even started yet)

hope to hear from you guys

    hey
i'm retaking this paper too, but i'm doing wuthering heights/wilfred owen.
i'm really hoping the wilfred owen poem isn't as horrid as the last one, the one with miners. that looked awful!

i have been doing past papers and have been getting A's on them and the way i've structured them is PEE, but just fleshed out a bit more. I've made about 5 or 6 points found a few quotes to back it up and just explained it. i think as long as you explain your point well and use evidence to support it, you can't go wrong.

i don't know about owen though,i have't really thought about how to structure that one yet lol

    anyway good luck!
    hope it goes well!

hi! Im resitting exam on 17th too
I haven't looked at the poems in that much detail yet. Hopefully I can get that done over the weekend.
I really hope the Owen Q isn't as bad as last time.. I literally knew nothing about miners.

My teachers think that for Owen the poems that have already came up, won't come again. Also Aterre is unlikely to come up because of its length and they are less likely to bring short poems up.
For Gatsby teacher said there is so much they can ask, you can't really be too sure...

I'm finding revision harder this time round because its been so long since we did this work in class and its not sinking in

i don't know why but i think strange meeting might come up? i mean, there so much to write about, it's got to come up at some point....although it's not necessarily about the poem, it's about the theme, like the loss of youth, the enemy, life as a soldier etc....

    hi

Are you talking about the A2 level....well i think it was something on the lines of "the play derives from an agonising sense of inevitibility" and there was one on the relationship between othelllo and Desdemona....something lioke "She is vital to her hisband; in losing her; he loses himself".

last year...they got an Q. "the complicity of iago" and "certainty".

How are you feeling about the exam?
how are you revising...i keep doin essays but my teacher says it "counter-productive" and that we should be discussing them lol...

what about pardoner and Dr.faustus....do you know what q. came up in jan.2011

oh yeah....i reckon this year it might be something on female characters which i dont get.....do yiou understand it.....

    hope this helps
    good luck

Thanks! it wasn't on the OCR site but I found it afterwards.
The other one was about Nick satirising and admiring West Egg for anyone else who looks at this thread.

Is there any advice you could offer me on the exam? Sitting it one week on monday and I'm really hoping for an A, any advice from someone with experience of it at all would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I'm doing the same exam as you. I don't have experience per se, but I've done a lot of practice essays in class with my teachers.
I really have no idea how to revise apart from writing out quotes from Gatsby and learning them and really analysing them because in the past that's where I lost marks, through my lack of analysing.
It's advisable to also learn criticisms and context for AO3 and AO4 because they definitely help to boost your mark.
As for Owen, again I've done past paper questions and by doing them and working on them they really helped.
But now we're a week before the exam and I've hit a dead end. I don't know what I can do to revise but continually read over the poems and pray for a good questions.
My class and teacher have a feeling that its going to be a dual poem but I'm hoping for Mental Cases or Disabled or even Apologia. That would be good. Oh! And make sure you get in links to other poems.

Hope this helps, and if anyone can give me tips on how to revise, that would be excellent.

Well obviously I'm in the same boat as you. I've revised Gatsby by writing out themes, points that illustrate the theme and quotes that illustrate that point.
Well Disabled has already come up, so it's less likely to be it this time. So has Dulce et Decorum est, Miners, Insensibility and Exposure. I have a feeling it'll be Apologia or The Sentry. I think The Sentry because there are so many themes you could write about.
Good luck to you too x

just make sure you're writing doesn't lack clarity....express your ideas clearly. Take 3/4 strong arguments backed up with quotations....basically PEE (im sure by now you know about that)

Into/conclusion have to be good so think before you write. Make sure every sentence says something so take your time when writing don't rush.

i recommend 10 minutes in order to understand the question and do a thorough plan so you know where your going with your essay.

    good luck
