all of my friends have like pics of them posing (not just pout, but smiling, looking serious etc) as their profile pic (or in their profile pic folder).. on their own that they've taken themselvs alone... but i just feel embarassed thinking about doing it myself! maybe it's fear of people thinking i'm vain/look ridiculous?

it's not as if i think i'm unattractive or take bad photos, i mean i'm completely confident in how i look (even if my opinion isn't the real case!)... but i'd just cringe every time i saw it on facebook. i feel so much more comfortable putting up a pic of me someone else has taken, even if it's me on my own, i really don't mind then!

    is this weird?

    Not weird.
The only pictures of myself that I have are those taken by other people.
I can't bring myself to take a "posey" picture of myself (mostly because I know it'd look ridiculous anyway).
But I've noticed that in the time between being 16 and 18, most of the people I know on fb have moved on to have pics of them taken by other people, rather than those "do my hair for half an hour, apply make up and push up bra, POUT" photos.

You're thinking too much about it.

I know but I just feel dumb, the weird thing is I don't think badly of anyone who does do it!

    They'll grow out of it
People always think that having one good picture makes them more attractive to the opposite sex... If somebody I know who is pretty has an unflattering photo on fb, I still know that they're pretty.
Likewise if someone I'd consider unattractive uses photoshop, I still know they're unattractive.
    Very strange behaviour lol.

    This is such a non-issue.

I usually go for 'recently taken picture that is slightly less hideous than the others' - I don't like posing for profile pictures

I also refused to add someone because their profile picture was a topless mirror shot... (it was a guy by the way)

I was going to say! If that was a girl it'd be taking it a little bit too far...

But yeah I hate guys who take pics of themselves posing, specially topless... mainly cause they tend to be big headed.. I know it's double standards seeing as I don't care if girls do it.

People who do those stupid pouting and vain profile pics on fb are fools and have no shame tbh.

This  Whenever an OK picture of me gets tagged I change it. It's probably once every few months :erm:

I'd feel weird posing for a pic myself too; in fact, I've just looked through my profile pics and they're all ones of me and other people. I even feel weird putting one up of me on my own, even if somebody else has taken it on a night out or whatever.

(also agree with sonny on the topless mirror shot thing. some guy I'm 'friends' with has a whole album of those )

It is stupid to think that, but I think that myself.

Why are you obsessing over it? If the thought of it makes you uncomfortable, don't put one up.

I'm the same, I just can't seem to put up a picture I've taken myself, I don't know why. I just use photos I'm tagged in as profile pictures, when I look 'natural'.

I feel the same: probably because I take a terribly photo
