sorry if this has already been done, I searched but did not find a similar thread

In this thread one person will post a historical picture and the rest will try and guess what it is. Whoever guesses it correctly wins and gets to posts a new pic! Easy right?

Alright, I'll begin. This one shouldn't be too hard

Name the painting – what’s the story behind it and for ze full points… what has it got to do with Colin Powell?

I don't have to, I know the answers. -_- But I was kinda hoping you would tell it in your own words..

P.S. This thread is ruined by google goggles.

yeh I thought of that but whatever, I like the idea of this game. I mean we're wasting our time on this forum anyway so we might as well learn a thing or two while doing so

This is Guernica by Picasso and (I think) it is a painting of the Spanish Civil War. It is huge.

    Explain this one:

    Correct!

It shows how the Reds (Bolsheviks) are penetrating the Whites (anti-Bolsheviks) during the Civil War that occurred after the revolution. I'm not definite about the black though.

It has to be one of Herman Leonard's photos because he's famed for his pictures of jazz icons... and a quick search shows that it's Duke Ellington.

I'll pass on your offer though thanks.
