As a proud Scot, I'd say Braveheart.

I voted for Forrest Gump but it's quite a matter of fact film actually. Forrest still ends up alone at a bus stop talking to an old stranger. To others he is remarkable - that may be partly because they patronise what he is capable of. To him, he just happens to stumble through life really doing the right thing because that is how he was brought up. He sometimes ends up in the right places at the right time and cruelly ends up an unwitting pawn. Life is cruel and his girlfrend is much less reliable than he is and his mother dies. He is a metaphor for the changing times too I think - the changes from the 1950s which no-one has a single guiding hand in nor can ultimately do anything about it even if they want to. Forrest is a tragedy I am afraid - his innocence and goodness turn out to mean nought to most people.

Inspiration to do what? Go off like an idiot into the country, totally unprepared and get yourself killed?

I vote for Shawshank- "get busy living or get busy dying"

They motivated me to take more of an interest in psychology and in the darker side of human nature. I watched them and thought: 'that's what I should do'. I guess they're just a few films of many that have a real effect on a person.
