John, I'm Only Dancing - David Bowie
Burning Down The House - Talking Heads
There She Goes Again - Velvet Underground
    Virginia Plain - Roxy Music
    Heartbreak Hotel - Elvis
    Hot Love - T Rex
The Passenger - Siouxsie & The Banshees
Where Did Our Love Go? - Soft Cell
I Fought The Law - The Clash
    Louie Louie - The Kingsmen
Obsessed With You - X Ray Spex
Go Wild In The Country - Bow Wow Wow

would be my picks anyway, although not necessarily that order.
I was in an independent vintage-esque boutique that played a different Bowie song (Heroes I think) followed by Burning Down The House and I spent about thirty quid there in approval of their music.

Google ye-ye girls, youtube some names. Get a hold of as much of the music from the scene as you can/care to and use that, it's great.

Now I know this is your vintage boutique, but to me that means 'classy', and I'm sorry but...The Clash? Jeez man, I have a picture in my mind of walking into CEX with the music playing so loud it's off putting.

Cute french music is perfect for a fashion store, right?
