HELP: Atomic Spectrum - how are energy and frequency related? Watch

1. This still confuses me.. when questions say things like how is the energy of the photon related to the frequency of radiation emitted etc.

For example, in a question;

"Explain the occurence of an atomic emission spectrum and explain why such spectra are uniqiye for individual elements"

It says to mention the relationship of frequency and energy? But what is this?

2. The mathematical relationship is E = hf

where E –= energy in J, h = Planck’s Constant and f = frequency of the radiation in Hz

Hey - Thank you for replying. I just don't really know what this actually means? How does the energy of the photon of light emitted affected the frequency?

It means that the energy of the photon is directly proportional to it's frequency - the greater the frequency the higher the energy of the photon.

This means that (for example) x-rays are more energetic than radio waves.
5. Also you might have used the Greek letter Nu (looks like a curly v) to represent frequency. The relationship still stands but it might look different.
