I stayed there in my first year (academic year 2003/4) and it was a flat rate of 100. However, this is more than likely to have gone up since then as i paid 71 a week ensuite then, and it is now 79.
Places are VERY limited, so even if you apply for one you may not be allocated one. There is NO parking elsewhere nearby except a tiny layby across the road from the main gates, which is always full and practically every car parked there gets broken into. (the residential estate 2mins up the road is quite rough) So if you don't get allocated a space and still want to live there, don't even consider taking your car.
What course are you thinking of doing incidentally?
And just a few points re: Kirkstall Brewery - its quite far out, a good 30min walk across 2 muddy fields to Beckett Park (or else bus into Headingley then 10min walk) although bus services into city are good if your course is at city campus.
Kirkstall is VERY loud CONSTANTLY - make sure you are ready for it, totally depends on your presonality whether you will be happy here. I wasn't particularly happy at all, but I think this is due to being a bit less social than most of the other students there - I prefer a three day going out week rather than seven! If you are up for a mad, exciting, full-on experience, you will be in your element.
Take LOADS of 20p pieces for washing machines / drying machines.
The bar is pretty cool and cheap. However you will be evacutated constantly throughout the night when drunken students set off the fire alarm - I think we had 143 between Easter - Summer! Have a great time but don't be under any illusions that you may ever get to sleep or study!

I'm thinking of taking Games Design. I know that its quite a way out, which is why I was thinking of taking the car. When I went to the open day I didn't see anywhere that was closer except for private houses to rent. Is there anywhere closer (to headingly campus)?

Im not sure to be honest. I was travelling a lot during my A-Levels so uni and accommodation was a very rushed decision, I just ticked the box that sounded ok.

I would contact Leeds Met see what they can do for you. But even if you take the car there is very limited parking at Headingley Campus, and you cant park anywhere on the surrounding roads for at least 1/2 mile radius as they are permit only. (and the traffic wardens are VERY keen) I found you could often drive around for 20-30mins before you got a space, and its near impossible in assignment season. Plus they have been `in the process` of installing barriers etc for the past 2 years to introduce paid parking only at Headingley campus, so I think thats coming in next Sept.

I wouldnt recommend taking the car if you can live any closer than Kirkstall Brewery - theres never any point taking it into the city as parking is so limited and so expensive, and the buses are quick and cheap.

If you live at Kirkstall either way it wil be inconvenient getting to uni - either bus (which only runs every 30mins) then 10-15min walk, or pay to park at Kirkstall, battle for a space, then possible pay at Headingley campus as well.

Im sorry to be on a downer about this, but this issue caused us problems throughout the first year so I think its only fair you should be aware of it.

Thanks for letting me know, as far as I can tell from the map there are no halls nearer to HEadingly than Kirkstall. Looks like I'll have to get used to walking & public transport then.
