    I agree. You really need to be able to answer this yourself if you're even considering a career at the Bar.

    Heard a girl in a practice interview say "I want to be a barrister because my mum always said I was good at arguing".

    To be fair I know what the original poster means. On my applications, I said it was because I wanted to be self-employed, I had a passion for law (particularly criminal) and I was good at advocacy.

    This answer was naive, apparently, and I didn't get an interview anywhere. There's a lot of pressure to come up with a reason that makes you stand out from the crowd without sounding like a complete weirdo at the same time.
