My boyfriend has just confided in me that he has been having very bad testicular aching in one of his testicles. He's made an appointment for Monday but he's terrified its cancer, and has asked me to go with him to his appointments and whatnot. I really would like some advice on what it could be, what questions to ask the doctor (he isn't good at this stuff) , and how to reassure him that its probably not cancer? Please help!

If its an ache, It might be a torsion? Has he checked for lumps??

I had a scare this time last year and it just turned out to be a small cyst that developed.

Does he secrete blood at all?

All the best though, I'm sure its nothing serious

i don't think diagnosing over the internet is a very good idea... i always used to do this to myself and it made me sick with worry. just go to the doctors with him and take it from there. i'm not exactly sure what quesions you can ask without knowing what it is just yet, he will just have to explain his symptoms and go from there - the doctor should hopefully explain everything. if you cannot get an earlier appointment and the aching gets worse or unbearable, go to the hospital - it seems extremes, but it could be wise. xx

I was with my ex boyfriend when he found a lump in his testicle. He had a family history of testicular cancer - his uncle died at the age of 16 because of it. I went to the appointment with him after he told me. This is how it goes:

You can go with him that's fine. The doctor will probably expect to inspect his testicles, theyll ask if you dont mind waiting or if you're over 18 (i THINK) observing (youre allowed someone to observe to make sure theres no funny business or to provide comfort). If the doctor is suspicious they'll refer your boyfriend to a specialist to get a proper diagnosis. You can go to that as well.

Just tell him to tell the doctor exactly how he feels, but docs are good at leading questions so theyl probably help him.

Its probably not cancer. It wasn't with my ex. Testicles go weird all the time, like breasts. Can't tell you what it might be I'm afraid.

I thought torsion was much more of an acute thing, with severe rather than aching pain?

Even if it does turn out for the worst, testicular tumours are one of the most treatable cancers, so its not a death sentence, unless its been there long enough to spread.

They think hes got an infection, somethings swollen inside, so theyve given him doxycycline, and hes got to go have an ultrasound to check its not cancer, yet when I read his letter they wrote to his GP they said they could feel a palpable lump :/
