I thought I would give my experiences of Swansea for people to read if they are thinking of going to the University
I grew up in Swansea and for my first year studied at Swansea University so know a great deal about the city
The city is very up and coming with all of the big shops coming to the center and there is loads to do not only in the center of Swansea but also the surrounding area's.
Swansea University is situated opposite the beach (2nd closest to a beach in the world), the sea front takes you either all the way to the city center or if your feeling adventurous and like a good walk you can stroll all the way to mumbles. Mumbles is an outstanding place with a pier and some great bars along the way called the mumbles mile.
University accommodation at Swansea University is consisted of 2 places. 1. on campus 2. Hendrofoelin Student Village. I was at the Student village and I can only say I would far from recommend it, its a few miles from the campus which you have to take a bus ride to the campus and doing that everyday the cost soon mounts up (something like £2.50) a day, if you dont get to the bus stop early enough you will also be queuing for a considerable amount of time and could miss your lecturers, The student Union bar on campus closes at 11pm and the only store on the village is a tiny spar which is so expensive and does not offer cashback only a LINK machine with a £1.50 charge
Campus is a very good place to live, the union is open until 2am, There is food courts on the campus so you dont have to cook all the time if you dont want, the atmosphere is much better and best of all you only have to roll out of bed to get to your classes
Nightlife is Swansea is really good, Everyone starts off at a place called "Wind Street" which is basically a long road (no traffic allowed down there at night) filled with Bars, such as Lloyds Bar, Walkabout, Reflex, Vodka Revolution e.t.c. There are then 2 main nightclubs Play or Oceania, these open until around 4am
For the Gay/Lesbian students out there, the gay scene isn't big and its quite rough also but if you can handle that there is there is TWO places which you can go to The Kings (A weird Bar type nightclub thing) Or Champers, Champers is Swansea's biggest gay nightclub and is actually quite good, they do loads of offers there and karaoke nights which is quite entertaining
Transport links are pretty reasonable in Swansea, trains run every hour to London Paddington going through Cardiff, Bristol, Reading E.t.c and also every half an hour if you wanted to travel down west towards Carmarthen
I hope this helps you and if you need anything just post in here and I will try and answer
