    hi,

found out today that my tutor has included in my reference that I've had attendance issues in the past. my application was sent off on monday.

this was way back in year 11 and i won't go into the specifics but it wasn't simply a case of me not going in because i couldn't be arsed or something.
although this isnt really clear in the reference, it just says "previous issues with attendance" and it makes it sound like i've been regularly missing A2 lessons or something.

How much of a negative effect is this likely to have?
I'm concerned I won't get any offers because of it. I mean what uni is going to offer a place on an over-subscribed course to someone with attendance issues mentioned in the reference?

Harsh thing to say on your reference imo.

But when looking at the overall application it'd have little impact in comparison with your AS grades/predicted grades and PS.

I have to be honest here, this is one of the below average refrences, tell your tutor he/she cost you your university place

Went to see if this could be changed today as it's been less than 14 days since I sent my application.
Was basically told "it could be but it wont be"

Woah, your teachers are *****. My attendance is pretty shocking, but this was completely omitted from my reference!
I'd try and appeal against it, and fast! Get your parents involved? Teachers hate shouting parents!

Pretty good point. If your teacher is saying you've had previous issues with attendance, they have to qualify it on the reference. To say something like that and not even explain it is beyond harsh.

    Definitely get your parents involved.

Get your parents involved! Or at the very least go higher than your referee and complain!

Are they allowed to do that? Our tutors were forbidden to say anything negative about us in our references and even if they tried, the Head of Sixth Form checks them all before they are sent off to UCAS. Are you sure they didn't just word it in positive words to imply you had attendance issues.

If it's just one sentence it could be overlooked. You have to decide whether doing anything would make the situation better or just draw more attention to it. If you did decide to do anything, you need your referee to email/write to the uni and explain the circumstances.

They can as long as they can justify it, they can say it ... but they're not in this case.

Dayum! I thought my school was awful, although I do go to a grammar sixth form and they & another sixth form in the area are always competing over university, grades e.t.c. so that's probably why.

OP, get your parents in! Schools hate angry parents.
