How does this make it in any way acceptable that we have virtually no power over what the government does.

Labour and Tory are like pepsi and coke that have been left in the sun too long and then diluted with piss and theyve made sure noone else is getting in any time soon (dont even mention the lib dems).

Government do what they like. Even when what they do is so obviously completely retarded the only thing we do is laugh at it on Have I Got News For You until the next headlines come in while they carry on.

the violence only breaks out after the police have kettled you and charged at you with mounted horses, it's a terrifying environment , your natural reaction is to fight back

I experienced it in the protest a couple of weeks ago.

I'm quite reassured to be honest. If the average person had power in how the country is being run we'd be in huge trouble and be on the brink of collapse...

And people will have a little rant about it every now and again but in reality, they don't care either. The system allows anyone to run the country yet very few people are remotely bothered enough to put themselves forward to do it (though those that do are then subjected to constant abuse and negative stereotyping...).

    Police tactics:
    1) 'Agree' with the protest organisers on the march route
    2) Cut off the march route, attempt to kettle everyone. If kettle attempt fails, protesters will begin running round and straying from the route.
    3) Keep kettling everyone, provoke violence by beating them up, use the fact that they're not sticking to the route as an excuse.
    4) Eventually keep protesters kettled for several hours, take pictures of every single one.

This is EXACTLY what happened here in Bristol on Tuesday last week, and is EXACTLY what happened in London today. And if the media do what they usually do:

    5) Celebrate as the public opinion goes against the protesters because of the violence.
