Setting up a small non-for-profit organisation to assist the running of a Forum? Watch

    • Thread Starter

Around two years ago inherited a small which has been running for around 10 years and currently had just shy of 10,000 members generating around 200 posts per day.

The site is continuously growing, up from around 150 post per day two years ago and i have been funding via personal means, paid for on my personal credit card, with a smattering of personal donations made in a simular way or in personal.
I have also distributed around 250 site window stickers which I have been accepting donations for via my personal paypal account as a not-for-profit exercise.
Forum accounts are published publicly, not including sticker sales which where a private venture.

Im now looking to expand the sites merchandise further to offer a range of items including clothing, mugs, stationary, etc and am also looking to be able to offer and publicise the ability to make official site donations and hence im wondering if i should set up a bank account for the forum accounts to go through, and where i stand in terms of doing this as well as declaring any possible earning that my occur.

Again, im not really looking to make any money out if it, just cover costs of the hosting/software/etc and a set towards the expensive of my own time and perhaps that of the site moderators.

It has been mentioned that i could set up a 'Community Directplus' account with the Co-Op.
