Sticky situation with money - what to do? Watch

I'm at university. I'm at the limit of my student account overdraft and have called the bank to see if they would extend it but was refused. I have no other savings. My rent is due at the end of the month and I have literally no money as it's so expensive to live where I am and I don't have time to find a job. I really really don't want to ask to borrow money from my parents as I'd have to ask for about £500, it's nearly Christmas, and they very probably wouldn't be able to afford to lend it to me either.

The only way I can see to get me out of this situation would be to apply for a credit card to pay for my rent and then pay it off and close the account when I get my student loan through in January. My only problem is that my rent is due before the end of December, and I've never had a credit card before so I don't know when they ask you for the repayments - if they would want me to pay off the credit card before the end of December, I wouldn't be able to. Is my solution doable?

OK I've applied for a credit card but the decision will be made within the next 10 working days which is too late for me seeing as that could take it to after Christmas and my rent is due on the 25th. Any suggestions?

Speak to your university, they often have funds put aside for things like this.
