# C2 Review exercise help Watch

1. Im stuck on the last two problems and would appreciate any help

A chord of a circle, radius 20cm, divides the circumference in the ratio 1 : 3. Find the ratio of the areas of the segments into which the circle is divided by the chord.

x, 3 and (x+8) are the fourth, fifth and sixth terms of a geometric series.

Find the possible values of x and the corresponding values of the common ratio

Thanks!

A picture is really going to help here. Where are you stuck in particular?

x, 3 and (x+8) are the fourth, fifth and sixth terms of a geometric series.

Find the possible values of x and the corresponding values of the common ratio
If we let the common ratio of the sequence be r, then we have 3=rx (since the fifth term in the sequence is given by r times the fourth term), and x+8=3r (since the sixth term in the sequence is given by r times the fifth term). Can you see where to go from here?
