    Hi

On my GCSE spec it says

"Describe patterns of monohybrid inhertiance using a genetic diagram"

I have no idea what that means

    Does anyone know?

    Thanks a lot!

Have you ever done those 'family tree' type diagrams where you show the genotypes of the parents and children? I would imagine that's what that means.

    Hi

I understand the family tree diagrams

But just don't get whaat the spec is trying to ask by pattern?

The pattern of inheritance is what you're describing with those diagrams For example, say you're asked about a disease which is a dominant allele, such as Huntington's. If you have one affected parent (assuming they only have one allele), and one healthy parent, when you cross them, there are two possible outcomes: an affected child or a healthy child. That's what's referred to as the pattern of inheritance.

I think it might be asking you about the ratios of what you get from the crosses

    e.g.

    Tt x Tt

    T t

    T TT Tt

    t Tt tt

That would be a 1:2:1 ratio with 2 heterozygous

so you could draw out punnet squares for heterozygous and homozygous to see any patterns

Each type of hybrid(mono, di .e.t.c) inheritance has a characteristic ratio pattern that helps identify it as either a monohybrid inheritance or a dihybrid inheritance.....

You are asked to identify the ratio pattern that is typical to a monohybrid inheritance using a genetic diagram....

I would go into details, but I am sure you will be able to take it from here..

    Goodluck..
