Assuming most applicants apply for more than one uni, UCAS got a total of £12,157,340 last year (639,860 lots of £19) from application fees - what do they actually do with this money?

Not all students apply for 5 courses, so some pay the lesser fee.

The fee pays for hosting, development, staff, etc.

Although the application fee brings in a lot of money, it covers less than half of UCAS's expenditure (about £28 million in 2009).
