A question asks me that for a set S, and where * is the binary operator as defined, determine whether * is or is not a binary operation on S.
So for example the set S is equal to the set of natural numbers, and a*b = a-b.
What tells me that something is or isn't a binary operation? In this case is it not because a-b could be negative and thus isn't an element of the natural numbers?
