Dumb question about u/g to digital Watch

At the moment i have a crappy old TV hooked up to a VCR (!!!) and an NTL cable box. I want to go full digital in the next couple of months, but for the next few weeks JUST want a better TV to hook it up to...

    1) I assume the above set up will work just fine if plugged in to a HD ready widescreen LCD jobbie w/ built in freeview tuner?

    2) I'm still undecided between freesat and freeview...am i right in assuming that the built in freeview tuner isn't an issue either way as whatever box comes will ignore it anyway?

    3) For recording, is it possible to get (cheap!) 3rd party DVD recorders that'll plug into the TV/box and, well, record, without the expense of a DVD/HDD/tuner box?

    Cheers,

    1) Yep, no problem.
    2) Set top boxes don't mind what your TV can do.
