The Lib Dems seems to be the ones who are getting all the flak for the student fee rises while the Tories who are the ones who wanted the rises escape relatively unscathed.

I think the Tories should keep the Lib Dems as their whipping boys even if they win an overall majority in the next election because they take all the flak while the Tories take all the glory.

If the Lib Dems want to salvage their electoral chances at the next election, they need to get rid of Clegg and allow him to join the Tories like he really wants and replace him with someone with the same centre-left ideology that Charles Kennedy had.

As long as Clegg and Hughes are around Three Party Politics is over before it has even begun.

It's not actually up to the Conservatives though is it, it's up to the Lib Dems and their leadership. As long as Nick Clegg is leader then they will probably stay in coalition, however if Nick Clegg is usurped then we may be forced to a new general election depending on whether the next leader decided to leave the coalition and attempt to form one with the Labour party.

If the coalition survives the tuition fees being passed by the House of Lords, and being enacted then I think the next issue that could cause a split is the AV referendum depending on how hard the Conservatives campaign against it.
