Not Drinking

Am I the only teenager on the entire face of the planet who doesn't drink? I've never really minded but recently I don't half feel inadequate for some reason. I think it's since my boyfriend started that I've really been worried about it but I can't place why. I don't have a big moral stance against alcohol or anything, it's just that I've never really liked the taste of it. Alchopops are fine but I don't know if I see the point in spending all that much extra when they taste almost exactly like soft drinks. I don't really know why I'm posting this, just looking for some moral support and getting it off my chest I suppose!

Don't feel pressured into doing anything you don't want to do: including drinking alcohol.

Being a little shy myself, I find it much easier to talk to girls (and people in general that i don't know very well) after just one or two beers. That's just me, it makes me feel more relaxed.

I only have a couple of drinks when I go out which is about once a month!
probably not. i know people that dont drink. i just like to, and it does help calm nerves. but if you dont drink, theres probably better ways to calm nerves!
I don't drink either, I'm completely teetotal. It's made the first few weeks of uni a bit weird but if nothing else it's a talking point!
So yes, here's moral support
Thanks! I don't know what it is that's made me suddenly care that I don't really. I think it's that my boyfriend and I have been together for over two years and I've never known him drink until the summer. I don't know why but it's really shaken me up for some reason. It does help to know I'm not the only one though so thank you!

Like Daz says, don't feel pressured into anything you don't want to do. Drinking alcohol is no big deal, i know lots of people who don't drink. My brother doesn't drink because he doesn't like the taste of it either. Think of all the money you will save!

Don't worry about it. I drink, but lots of my friends don't, some for religious reasons, others because they just don't like the taste. It reallly doesn't matter.
If you can go out and chat to people and have a great time without drinking, then that's awesome because you'll save so much money over the night - and obviously not feel hungover the next day!

Ahem... i mean...

I have a friend whom, due to his religion, doesn't drink at all - never has, never will. He has just as much fun at parties as everyone else, and everyone loves him. Go figure.

No, you're not alone...you're just in a minority
Your feeling about it kicking off after your boyfriend started...not that I'd know, but maybe you're subconsciously wondering how he feels about you not drinking while he does?
Really, there's nothing wrong with not drinking. Last year, while all of the lads in the uni pool society were buying pints for themselves, one guy (who's this year's president of the poolsoc) was only drinking glasses of irn bru or cola. Haven't seen him drinking thus far this year, so I don't know if he's changed his stance or not in the past 5 months or so.

I was actually in a similar situation a few years ago. I went to the afterparty from our high school Christmas dance, and was probably the only person there who'd never really been much of a drinker before that. I went through four bottles of beer in four and a half hours...sure, some people made sarky comments about it to me, but I just ignored them. So long as I was having a good time with my friends, I was happy
No you're all right! I don't even know why I was so worried about it now. If I'm brave enough to go out dressed as Minnie Mouse without having consumed a drop of alcohol, I think there's got to be something about me! Plus I have more money to spend on shoes and more calories to spend on chocolate cake. It's a win - win situation. Hoorah!

Lol, good for you on the Minnie Mouse! I couldn't do that. But yeah, it's amazing how much more money I seem to have at the weekend compared to the others who are out drinking all the time...

I know! I think what I spend on about 3 drinks is what other people spend on one and my head is a lot better in Theatre Studies on a Friday morning!
I don't at all, mainly because I generally hate the taste, and also because if I did it'd be a social drink, not a friday night binge, which no one my age seems to understand anymore. :frown:

So yeah, Support! :tsr:

I'm a non drinker too, I get some stick when we go out, but I sure don't see what's so idiotic about spending half of what everyone does, not doing stupid things you'll regret, and not wasting the whole of the next day in bed. I used to drink, but I have just as much fun without it, without any of the drawbacks so don't bother anymore.
People may laugh, but there's no shame in it! Be proud of your stance and have fun!

I don't. It doesn't agree with me for some reason, I wouldn't mind drinking a little because I don't mind the taste, but even half or quarter of a glass of something alcoholic gives me a headache and makes me feel a bit dizzy and weird, so I don't drink.
Anyway, I don't need to, as I can get 'drunk' very convincingly on nothing at all, or orange juice. My friends find this very funny, and I get weird looks when people see me doing stupid things and dancing like a maniac and I tell them I'm not drunk, and in fact have consumed no alcohol at all.

It's much better to be able to control my drunkenness though, plus I can use the fact that I don't drink to excuse my shopping habit.

Edit: just realised that actually I'm not a teenager any more...still. I was very recently, and there's not that much difference in drinking habits between teenagers and '20-somethings' (arghghh...).
dnt worry about it, i know many ppl who dont drink, including myself

Same here; one of my friends suggested to me yesterday that I might actually be allergic to alcohol, which was something that had never occured to me.
