When i started uni this year, i decided i was going to quit the notorious World of Warcraft once, and for all, but since the release of Cataclysm, and realising i have a lot more spare time than i thoguht i'd have, i attempted to get back into the game.

Upon installation etc, i realised that WoW, amongst most other online games seems to be blocked within the halls at my university (Robert Gordon's, aberdeen)

I tried talking to admin about opening ports, but apparently it's fairly strict up here, and they couldn't open them without good reason, gaming is not one of them, although he did hint that there are ways to get round the firewall, although he couldn't help me directly.

I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on how i could get on WoW?

    thanks!

I'd hardly call it evil. If you imagine everybody who wants to play WoW on a network not intended for online gaming, you could quite easily slow the connection down for everybody else in the university.

That said, the easiest, most reliable, and safest (least like to get you into trouble at least) way of doing it would be through SSH tunelling, which requires you to have a computer somewhere with SSH enabled that you can connect to (and fairly quickly for something like WoW tbh).

Something like http://www.anonymize.net/ or https://secure-tunnel.com/ would do the trick, although you'd probably find cheaper and quick connections if you started paying for a cheap VPS.
