    Hi all,
I have an interview for a primary PGCE at London Met in Feb. I have sereached lots of forums in order to see what previous applicants said about the interview but instead I just found a lot of slander towards the uni. I'm not interested in hearing people tell me not to go there I am a mature student and have lots of experience. In fact my second choice is Goldsmiths so I have many reasons to go to London Met. If anyone could offer any advice on an interview they have had there or if they are going to also be having one this coming February I'd really appreciate hearing your views. There aren't any threads about this and I know London Met have way too many applicants so people who have applied there/been refused/got an interview/had an interview let me know! Thanks =0)

I can't offer you any advice in that respect, but I think it is somewhat foolish not to take opinions of the university seriously.

The first thing a school will look at when going through your application form. If they do not see a university that ahs a good reputation for ITT or that they have had good experiences with, you may aswell not apply!

Yes, I understand what you are saying however this is a handful of people who have written on forums with no experience of the university. I know London Met has good links to many schools in London and that is one of the reasons. Also I know that although it may not be great for undergraduate studies (again through hearsay) it has a reputation for having lots of good postgraduate courses. Within ranking for education its not the top but its certainly not the bottom. I often think that it is how you perform as a student/teacher that makes you stand out from other people. I know this because many of my friends are teachers and my boyfriend's mum does the interviews for Bath Spa. What I really meant to come across in my previous post was that I wanted to hear from people who have been there and had the interview. I have the interview and I am going there (I just paid 800 pounds for a flight to do it!) I just don't want people to write as I have seen in previous posts "My advice is to run away from the worst uni in the UK!" Really I don't know what they are basing that opinion on and so it isn't really useful to me! =0) Also ITT is standardised arcoss the country so the first thing schools definately don't do is check the uni and write you off. Trust me experience is everything, but thanks for your reply! =0)

After stressing all night long due to these forums about London Met I decided to ring the TDA (Government advice for teachers) I asked them about London Met and Goldsmiths and my worry that I had made the wrong choice because of what people had said. The told me that firstly IT DOESN'T matter where you do your PGCE as long as you get your QTS that is all that matters. The schools do not look at the uni. The he told me to go to this link and if I wanted to compare and check the specific training providers and there reports based on Ofsted etc then I could do it there. I compared Goldsmiths and London Met and contrary to what everyone has said LONDON MET has pretty much the same grade (if you will) as Goldsmiths. Infact there was a higher percentage of London Met students that achieved QTS. For anyone that has been made to feel like they were making the wrong choice check the site out and make your own mind up based on factual information and not someone who really has no idea what they are talking about!

Hi! I have an interview in Feb for the same course at London Met too! I'm quite excited and put a lot of thought into the Uni as a Primary PGCE is a great course to get onto anyway despite where you do it. How are you feeling about the interview? Maybe I will see you there!

aww im really relieved to see other people say this too... ive been really worried after seeing so many bad reviews, but I agree .. i wouldnt take too much notice of them... and ive heard from lots of ppl that the pgce course is graded the same everywhere and that the important thing is going to a uni that specialises in the things you are interested in! so fingers crossed it will all work out!

Also really good to hear that you both have interviews in Feb too... i was getting really worried as all the other unis seem to be doing theirs much earlier - maybe see you guys there!

I completely disagree with the post about 'the first things schools look at is your university' - I did my Primary PGCE at the Institute of Education which is a bloody good place to study for your PGCE, and I wanted to move back to the Midlands.. because I had studied in London etc hardly ANY schools looked at me.. I applied for so many jobs and got very few interviews.. and it wasn't because of my grades, I got top grades and was Ofsted graded Outstanding for my teaching practice.. it's more who you know when it comes to jobs, do your PGCE where you are happy.

I also have an interview in Feb. looks like a busy busy day. Just chewing over the requirements now. Wouldn't worry about the uni s rep. Think about its location, cos this will relate to where you go on placement. I would be over the moon if I were offered a place because its something Ive wanted to do for a long time.Just concentrate on what you need for interview. I also have lots of experience so I,m hoping this is what they want (you can never second guess) good luck, don't worry.

Me too I had mine on the 9th and I haven't heard anything yet! I rang up on Tuesday but the woman said my status was still pending and she would ask whoever is in charge to contact me asap possible, before the end of the week! In the interview Cedra said that the interviews were taking place until the end of Feb and then making their decisions in one go so perhaps we'll hear this week or next?! Good Luck! How was your interview btw? I was terrible at the maths section! Hayles

    Hi all,

I received a letter today from GTTR, saying that the uni needed longer time to consider my application. Phone GTTR, they said that uni's are waiting to here the number of the students they are allowed to take on the course.

Phone London Met, spoke to a lovely lady. However, she was unsure about the situation, but said they are still waiting to hear of their number intake. Therefore, I email Jessica Palmer, waiting to here back.

I hate this waiting game to either be the most happiest person in the world or the saddest. Please let us know if anyone else has heard. Don't know if this letter is a good thing or bad :-).

    Cheers Lisa x

Have you heard anything since? Any more updates on how long more we will be waiting?

    Hello,

I had my interview on the 9th of Feb and have been really frustrated with the lack of any reply!!

I got a reply to an email i sent the other week to Jessica Palmer. The reason for the delay seems to have been the TDA not giving them a definate figure for funding. That said, I was told that I interviewed well and that whilst they were not in a place to confirm a place, the uni was intending to offer me one!

As you can imagine I am quite happy about this and I hope the rest of you hear from them soon, I believe they are going to get details out into the next week.

    Hi all,

I had my interview on feb 15th and have called a few times to find out about decisions, on monday when i spoke to Jessica (head of admissions) she asked me for my name and looked up my file and said she isn't able to confirm anything but she was pretty sure that they intended on offering me a place...... she said she was still waiting for confirmation from the tda about funding and was hoping to make offers early next week!
