Basically I muffed up my gap year so I now plan to self teach myself A2 Sociology and enter the 2 exams in the summer - who do I need to get in touch with, my college or the exam board directly (AQA)? Has anyone else self taught and found it worked ok? I did pretty well in the AS last year with 179/200, the only thing that's rusty is my essay writing but I'll have a good 6 months to teach myself the course.

AQA have a list of centres that take external candidates; grab the list and make some calls.

I'd encourage you to call ALL of the centres, as the prices will fluctuate wildly. My maths A level is costing me ~£90, the first college I called wanted £900.

Teaching yourself is pretty hard I've found; you have to be organised and disciplined. It's just a question of how much you want it though, it's certainly doable in 6 months.

Check if your school will allow you to sit it as an external candidate. Otherwise check this list .
