Hi, I am thinking of doing Classics, French, English Lit and English Lang at A/S and hope to study an arts or language subject at Oxbridge. One of my teachers says that studying two English subjects is overkill and that I should choose a different subject - ideally Maths or Science - instead if I want to go to Oxbridge and another says that English Lang is a respected subject and will help with my English Lit grades and study. I am confused. Please help!!

Providing you take French and English Lit to A2, they won't care too much what you're AS or other A2 is. Whilst Maths/science shows a different skill set to the others, don't do it if you don't think you can get a good grade or if you just really don't enjoy it, it's not worth it then.

Do something you like for yourself....not for oxbridge...as long as you excel at it (and pass whatever entrance exam :unimpressed: ) you have a chance.

That's a fine subject combination. People say English language is less 'respected' than others but as you have three very well respected subjects it doesn't really matter what your fourth is. I say go for that combination as they are ones you enjoy thus you are more likely to do well in them

Great thanks for advice. But i forgot to say that the Classics A level is actually Classical Civilization not Latin and Greek. Still OK as a subject choice and combination? Love to hear what you think

I wouldn't recommend Eng Lang, because it *is* less respected - many top schools don't offer it at A Level at all - and also, you're already doing Eng Lit so it's just redundant. A Humanities/Social Sciences subject such as History may be useful, because they improve your essay-writing skills, and complement languages very well.

Is it likely to interfere with my chances of Oxbridge or another Russell Group uni though, if I drop it after A/S?
