I've been bleaching my hair for over two years now. I've always been super careful, only doing my roots, conditioning like mad, but inevitably my hair is now a dry mess. I'm going to have to cut a lot of it off, which I don't mind.

My question is, how short? I love cropped hair on girls, but it seems that a lot of people's reactions seems to be "boy hair, don't like." Who has had their hair cut super short? How did you feel after it? And what do you ask the hairdresser for?

I said that I wanted a pixie cut, and asked to look at some magazines, and then just pointed out the kind of fringe I'd like.

The hairdresser worked out the length, pretty much by holding my hair up, and asking me how short I wanted it.

I got an asymmetrical fringe, and quite a short cut at the back (1.5 inches), with more length on the top. I really loved it, it didn't look at all masculine, though it depends on what your features are like. I don't have exceptionally delicate features, it's just extremely difficult to mistake me for a man.

I'd recommend it, with one caveat: it's an absolute ***** to grow out.

I had really long hair (waist length) then decided to get it all cut off in a bob style. I really liked it for a while (about two weeks) then I just missed my long hair. Two years later and I am still growing it.
