Ok....this is a long shot here...but anything know anything about St. Edmund's...like the people, atmosphere there, which buildings/departments it's close to...etc...
I applied there as an affiliated student for law, and I was just curious about the "real" St. Edmund's.

Hopefully will see someone who goes there tonight and can ask her - if you have any specific questions post them and I'll try and see if she's around!

Hey thanks a lot! Nice to find someone who knows where/what St. Edmund's is..I'm applying there because I actually prefer grad colleges more due to my age and stuff...
A question is are interviews and such the same as other undergrad. colleges. As well, are there a lotta affiliated students there in general? Or are they mostly mature/grad students?

Thanks..really appreciate it!.

ah it's a grad college. you old oldies you!
St. Edmunds is nice, it's a bit distant from the law faculty. They have some good parties and there seem to be a good mix of people, in comparison my college, wolfson, is mostly international and hughes seems filled with boaties and/or brits. You've already applied, so you'll get to come see it. I don't know anyone who's taking law but know several compscis, some vets, medics, etc.

Both Ed's and Wolfson are ridiculously laid back, especially if you're an undergrad. You'll have to be prepared to make your own way some times and make ridiculous conversation with PhD students about their subject, but that's the mature colleges. Of course they do have some pretty traditional bits because they are fairly old, just newly admitted into the university collegiate system. I'm going to be going to a formal there sometime soon, so I could probably say more after that.

Grad/Mature colleges get a bad rap here, but I honestly don't mind mine. However people from grad colleges tend to socialize separately and party less than regular undergrads, which sort of sucks (you people are so mean!) so you have to go out of your way to check out the other colleges and get people to go into town.

Laid back sounds good to me seeing as I'm from Canada/U.S *haha* Hey when you say far from the law faculty..are we talking like 20 min far by foot, or even longer? As for grad colleges tending to socialize separately, I think I can understand if people think I'm an "oldie" as mentioned a few posts ago . *sigh* Being an oldie at the age of 22....

20? Are u from like Singapore or Korea or something? Well, it's cuz I already got a degree and for me, I feel that those colleges may be more geared towards helping us affiliated/mature students. It might also be nice to meet ppl around my age there who has sort of gone through the process of uni etc...Of course I'm not saying undergrad colleges aren't great.

Well I studied in Canada for most of my life...now studying @ Tufts in the U.S. But I actually live in HK now...
Tufts? It's alright..getting harder to get into now...actually that goes for most U.S. unis...The requirements just seem to get harder and harder...and one has to do so much stuff..so as extracurricular activities, cuz here in the U.S. the admissions people put quite a bit of weight into them unlike the UK unis

Well i'm not at all saying he was representative of the student population there. But let's just say it didn't work out. And he occasionally glares at me when I walk past.

Yeah I'd say 20 min by foot. It's about equidistant to go from wolfson to the computer lab (where I live) as it is to go from St. Ed's to the law faculty, they're at opposites. Given that I'm here at the lab is far away, I wouldn't let location deter you.

At any rate, I would suggest wolfson (it's a 5 min walk from here to the law building) but I guess you've already applied. :-) However, you'll really need a bike at a far out college, and with one you can half that time.

It's nice to be with people your age, that's why I picked a grad college. I was just pointing out the lack of information from the folks here is because they're all youngins.

20 min?? Blehhh...*haha* Oh wells..Exercise would be good for me.
Did I ask you this before, but what are you studying? Are u an affiliated student or mature or grad student?
As for people my age yea.....Even here...where I am a senior I find that my interests and kind of view on things are really different from the freshman (1st years). Maybe it's cuz I went through all that period of craziness, and soul-searching =)
Don't forget the period of constant heavy drinking... Though it's not really that overboard here, but I get the feeling people are really excited to not be under direct supervision.

I'm a compsci, I'm undergrad but the college is a "grad college" and I'm a "mature" student, which basically means I'm old and haven't gotten my first degree yet. I'm prob a bit older (23) but I wouldn't call myself mature... Oh well.
