Downing Street has tried to play down reports senior officials are preparing a "Plan B" in the event of a sharp economic downturn.

This is a complete non-story, all good businesses have contingency plans for unforeseen circumstances, it doesn't mean you are planning for failure.

Lets say George Osbornes economic reforms work perfectly and then there's a war between Israel and Iran which spills over into a regional Middle Eastern war, the price of oil shoots up so there's a huge supply shock to the economy. That won't be Osborne's fault but if there's no contingency then everybody will say "where was plan B"?

I agree this is a non-story. Just alarmist crap by a journalist that knows crap about economics. Since when is being proactive bad?

What a failed attempt at sarcasm (the lowest form of wit).

It may be the lowest form of wit but anything higher and you would have trouble understanding it

I don't get this story. Everyone seems to think that just because Labour didn't have a plan for catastrophe the Conservatives shouldn't. I personally hope they've planned all the way to Z.

Maybe plan B can be the spending levels they supported all the way up into 2008?

Oh no wait the entire country is pretending (or simply doesn't know) that ever happened.
