Hi, I’m quite new to all this I mainly have two enquiries I don’t know if anyone can help me with them!!

I am looking for statistics as to the number of individuals that have secured a puppillage in 2009 and in 2010. The information on most websites says figures which do not appear to be accurate and I need to rely on this information.

Further I am seeking a role as a paralegal and have been looking for a year now. My law degree and one year successful completion of BVC do not seem to be enough and I wondered whether it was worthwhile to do a paralegal course?? Has anyone done one of those accredited courses for paralegals at all? And do they give one an edge? Are they worthwhile doing taking into consideration the expense and time they require?

Please advise if you have any information or advice on either of these issues thank you.

Stats are on the bar council website. Remember these are not for people securing pupillage out of those on the BVC for any one year ie 450 (?) out of no on BVC, but those securing pupillage out of those applying who have completed the BVC in the last 5 years and not getting pupillage and those in their final year LLB/GDL.

Do you mean you are 1/2 way through the PT BVC? There is a struggle to get paralegal work as there are so many people finished BVC and LPC already so you will struggle to compete with them. Don't throw money away doing a course it will make no difference, you need contacts. The best thing you can do is offer to clerk by writing speculatvely to solicitors firms (don't phone they are really busy and taking a call which disturbs them will often consign you to the reject pile) and through that try to build contcacts for when you finish studying,
