How far do you agree that the main reason for the Bolshevik success in October 1917 was the failure of the Provisional Government to deliver peace bread and land?

What are you asking for - general essay writing tips or specifically for this one? You need to look at other weaknesses of other parties (why they didn't succeed) and things the Bolsheviks did that was better (and perhaps not so good and why that didn't matter overall). Can't really remember specifics i'm afraid.

No peace because the PG didn't pull out of the war. Therefore no money to provide bread. Didn't do anything about land.

    THEREFORE

Bolsheviks come in with the policy of pulling out of the war and therefore being able to provide bread. However it was due to Lenin's great oratory skills that he persuaded the people and his party that they needed to do this.

Can't remember much more but I hope this helps.

The way to approach this type of question is thematically, try find the other factors which allowed Bolshevism to prosper in 1917.

The first theme is given in the question. Show that the provisional government failed the people by not pulling out of the war i.e not delivering peace, failed to distribute the land the peasants wanted and the spark of the revolution was at a bread riot. You've addressed the main theme in the question by doing this first. Try add a mission statement as one of the last sentences of your introduction, saying what your argument is, whether it is / isn't the main factor, and add your analysis in here reaffirming it.

Continue this for two or three other factors (economic, politics, social) and you'll be well on your way to answering this Q.

Hope this was of some help

Perhaps worth mentioning that Bolshevik success was pretty fortunate, and they were simply the group most capable of exploiting the power vacuum- They did not have widespread support Nationally or in Moscow (see 4 years civil war) and Trotsky himself stated that they could have been stopped by "500 good men". (I think that's the quote)
