I got an e-mail of a university I applied to saying they want me to come to an open day. I haven't had an offer of them yet though so I can only assume I will be interviewed. It gives no indication as to whether this will be formal or informal. Whether I will get an interview and if its one to one or one of those "group interview/open day as they show you round" type. Im going to e-mail the university tomorrow but just thought someone might be able to shed some light on this. It's Lancaster university if that helps.

Lancaster invited me to one of those when I applied. It's not formal at all, and they didn't interview me. What have you applied for?

Natural sciences. Did they give you an offer before or after the open day? Thanks

I think I had already received my offer. I shouldn't think it's unusual for unis to invite candidates to the university though; if they do give you an offer, having had a look around usually makes you more likely to choose them as either firm or insurance. Go on the day; I did and found it so helpful.

I plan on going, I just think it's a bit strange that they invite me without deciding whether I get an offer or not. It'l be funny if I end up going and then they just go "Nah, REJECTED".

From what Ive gathered, being invited to a further open day means one of two things, either you are about to recieve an offer or you might be getting an interview. However, theyd usually mention in the email if there was going to be an interview so in this case it sounds to me like you may be getting an offer.

    Fingers crossed!
