not always. lots of girls "get broken" using types of toiletries or doing something innocuous like gynastics etc

I didn't bleed at all the first time I had sex, and to put it bluntly, my ex is quite a big boy.

In some countries the mother-in-law and all the extended family sleep in the next room on the wedding night and in the morning they go in and check the sheets. If there's no blood on them, the bride is publicly shamed for not being a virgin. But seeing as not everyone bleeds, it is common practice for the husband to cut himself somewhere inconspicuous and drip his blood on the sheets to "fake it".

Stories like this make me so angry. :frown:

Deuteronomy 22:13-21

13 If a man takes a wife and, after lying with her, dislikes her

14 and slanders her and gives her a bad name, saying, "I married this woman, but when I approached her, I did not find proof of her virginity,"

15 then the girl's father and mother shall bring proof that she was a virgin to the town elders at the gate.

16 The girl's father will say to the elders, "I gave my daughter in marriage to this man, but he dislikes her.

17 Now he has slandered her and said, 'I did not find your daughter to be a virgin.' But here is the proof of my daughter's virginity." Then her parents shall display the cloth before the elders of the town,

18 and the elders shall take the man and punish him.

19 They shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give them to the girl's father, because this man has given an Israelite virgin a bad name. She shall continue to be his wife; he must not divorce her as long as he lives.

20 If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the girl's virginity can be found,

21 she shall be brought to the door of her father's house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done a disgraceful thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father's house. You must purge the evil from among you.

I don't know, exactly.

I might revise that and say "some cultures". Thinking about it, it's probably more likely to be certain religious sects, rather than a country as a whole. We're talking areas of Asia though.

Complete rubbish. Sex was absolute agony for me (mainly cos I'm quite erm, small, and my boyfriend is quite big) but alas, no blood at all! I can't think what could have broken it, I guess I did ballet from a young age so probably that.

Most of my friends haven't bled either, just a few of them.

mainly eastern european countries, although only in certain cultures. i think it's predominantly among gypsy cultures, certainly in romania. it's not actually as strange as it sounds, firstly it's rooted in tradition, and secondly there seems to be very limited awareness of the fact that it's not actually a definitive measure...so glad it doesn't happen here tho...

The bleeding is the hymen breaking. Many girls already break their hymen doing usually sports such as horseriding, gymnastics, riding a bike etc. So it's relatively common for a girl not to bleed during her first sexual experience, however, that's not to say it is weird if a girl bleed slightly, as I say, it is just the breaking of the hymen. The hymen can be broken in other ways too. It's just specific to the individual really, and whether there's is intact! Any other bleeding would be a cause for concern...

I didnt bleed the first time... my ex wasnt exactly large though. However, the second time, with my current boyfriend I did... he's much bigger . Obviously that has something to do with it too
