Passport with corner cut?

My passport was sent off due to a name change (I've since got a replacement). I've been using my driving license in my old name for ID until the end of term. Now sent that off in the hope I get it back before the new term to avoid needing to take the passport out.

I now realised I want to go out for New Year but don't want to take the brand new passport to my girlfriends... would the old one be accepted? It is still in date etc, just in my old name and the cut - other than that there is clearly nothing wrong with it. I know expired passports are accepted, but not sure about one with a cut in!?

My sister uses hers just fine.

Depends on the doorman, really. Most will be okay about it.

Considering expired passports are also cut (as far as I know) and expired passports are usually excepted, you should be fine.

Erm, it's a grey area, because it depends upon the bouncer or bartender.

Simply put, it's not valid identification, so they're completely within their right to refuse it, but many will accept it.
