    Thoughts?

Personally I think its outrageous that people have to rely on footbanks in a rich country in the 21st century...

Living on benefits is not meant to be fun. Why not stigmatise the unemployed? It is a stigma. Not having a job means you are being paid by society, I want that to be something which is looked down upon.

Very good idea it's better to make sure they buy essentials such as food rather than just to give them money and assume they won't spend it on drugs, booze etc.

And to anyone saying there is a stigma attached to using vouchers quite frankly deal with it. You are unemployed therefore you should be grateful you get anything at all. If someone has so much pride that they are unwilling to take vouchers to buy essentials then they can starve and keep their pride if it means so much to them.

you horrible character . why do you look down on someone who hasn't got a job?
in case you hadn't noticed there's mass unemployment across europe and the us, so you therefore look down on all these people ? you look down on millions and millions of people, are you god?

what you should look down upon are the politicians and governments who are propping up this failed economic system. They appear to be happy for millions and millions to be unemployed, happy for millions to be poor.

What about those who are entitled to it but live at home with parents, and do not need food vouchers? Perhaps they need money for transport to interviews, or whatever they might need it for. Bit absurd to believe that food is the only essential in life.

      Cool story bro.

nah you are right, we should incentivise unemployment. We should say to people. If you want to be unemployed we will pay you as much as a lot of people who go out and work everyday, then you can sit there and not workk your way up a career ladder and remain poor for all your life, and then your kids can do the same.

Social mobility? I don't think so.

Not all unemployed people are wasters, despite what the majority of silly middle class people think on TSR.

I think it is a good idea, giving them food will help a lot of people.. but don't presume ALL people on the dole spend it on drugs and booze!!

What a ridiculous comment. Would you eat leftovers from a cafe or restaurant? No.

They're not peasants, some people cannot help being unemployed.. Jesus TSR just gets worse and worse

I don't care about vacancies, the point is you need to make sure people do try and go for the jobs, the easier you make it to sit on your arse all day, the easier it becomes to not get a job which effects their lives and the lives of their kids.

The left and the right have the same goals I believe, they just go about it different ways, and I think at the moment we don't have it right.

The Tories didn't help under Thatcher though, deliberately putting millions of long term unemployed on disability benefits deliberately to bring the unemployment figures down...

It's about helping people get a job, whilst making sure they want to get a job. I know we all know of people who try really hard, they are people who will eventually get jobs. It's the people that have been unemployed for generations that need to break that cycle. And it will take a lot but it needs to be done.

      How demeaning.

In a perverse way I do wish the snobby middle class brats posting nonsense in this thread end up on the dole for a very short while at some point in their lives. Then they'll realise it's not fun or a treat and that being demeaned by the state (and further demonised by the chattering classes and media) is actually not a laughing matter.

tbh I think similar should be done after EMA is scrapped , with transport and stationary vouchers etc. Give people the things they need, not just the money to buy it. Therefore money cannot be misused as it often is under the current systems , yet retains a fairness in the sense that the needy still get what the system was originally designed to give them.

This is an excellent method to deal with people who have their benefits delayed. I can only imagine it being quite difficult for a person on benefits trying to make ends meet whilst worrying about where they will feed themselves and their families from whilst in financial difficulties.

Well this is what happens when the government gets too involved in the economy. Mass unemployment. Thank your socialist friends for this problem.

Food tokens are a temporary solution to a huge problem.

Then they can bring in food for the family and in return get some pocket money from their parents.

        why though ?

What is so demeaning about free food compared to other benefits ?

If you are unemployed, short of cash, and desperate for state-hound outs to survive, then what's the problem with free-food ? I doubt they will force you to take it if you don't want it, there will always be others who will gladly take it.
