Was wondering if you can link a ps3 or xbox to a laptop and play it through that? As in link it through the hdmi slot. My friend says it's possible but wasn't sure. If you can it'll probably only happen with new models. I was told that the hdmi slot on all laptops was only for output?

You'll need some kind of video input on your laptop. Some newer laptops may have HDMI input posts (check the manual/the back on the laptop), but otherwise it's more common to find VGA inputs (or possibly nothing). You'd need an adaptor cable in this case, which you can pick up for about a fiver - just search for "HDMI VGA adaptor" and you'll find plenty.

If your laptop has a HDMI port, it's probably an output, which means that you can only display pictures from your laptop on another screen, not display pictures from another device on your laptop's screen. However, if this is the case, I'm pretty sure there are USB peripherals you can buy which allow you to accept a video input into your laptop and display them on you're screen, but I don't think they're cheap. Why do you want to play your PS3 on your laptop's screen anyway?
