Do I have a realistic chance of being accepted onto a Zoology course? Watch

    • Thread Starter

I’m desperate to go to University to study zoology but I don’t have the traditional required grades. I applied last year but failed to get acceptance. Last year i applied with 5 GCSE's in English literature, English language, P.E, History and Humanities with grades ranging from A to C. I didn’t turn up to my science GCSE’s and only obtained a D in maths. I have 3 A Levels at grade C level in History, P.E and Film studies, I know film studies! What the hell I was thinking. Although P.E A level is based on around biology i was told by Universities it isn’t enough and I needed an A Level biology or equivalent. Due to the fact no local Colleges allowed me to do a Biology A Level on its own I opted to enrol on an access to higher education diploma that contains biology along with many other subjects, I was told at the start of the course that the subjects are equivalent to A Levels though I am sceptical of this as it is not registered on the UCAS website and nor does it gain UCAS tariff points. I am currently on course to achieving distinction in biology, will this access to higher education diploma combined with my other qualifications mount a realistic chance of being accepted onto a zoology course, bearing in mind I have not applied to Universities that has very high entry requirements. 2 of my choices include foundation years. I have not yet sent off my application and can still change my choices to courses more suited to my grades. Is it better for me to change from zoology? Im 20 by the way.

access courses are designed for people in your situation who dont have the correct knowledge or qualifications for the next level. So as long as you do okay in that, I think you have a realistic chance, just make sure your reference and PS are really good.
