Wasn't sure if this belonged in the music forum or not. I'm got a bit of a query since I don't transfer music often. I went off to university with my laptop a couple months ago containing a music library that mirrored my home computer. Since then I've obviously added a lot more songs which I've downloaded or bought (omf paying for music) off iTunes on to my laptop.

Is there an easy way to update the music on to my home computer without getting duplicates, so basically put only my new songs from my laptop on there? (Because I'm not sure what is or isn't new anymore). Also as far as I've experienced, music you buy off iTunes can't be transferred to another computer and I need to buy it again if I want it anywhere else, is this correct or am I missing something?

To address your iTunes issue, what you want to do is to "authorise" each computer to access purchases from your account. Within iTunes, go to "Store" -> "Authorise This Computer" and log in.
