european convention is basically a bill of rights which several nations have signed up to, if you feel you have been treated in such a way by one of the signatory states that breaches your human rights you take it up at the european court of human rights.

The European Court of Human Rights was established by the European Convention on Human Rights.

The former is abbreviated to 'ECtHR' whilst the latter is abbreviated to ECHR.
